The Genetic Consequences of Anaphase Bridge Formation in Drosophila.

چکیده

ROSSING over between ring and normal X chromosomes of D. melunoc gaster was first studied by L. V. MORGAN (1933); the later work of STURTEVANT and BEADLE (1936) provided an understanding of the behavior of anaphase bridges resulting from crossing over in inversion heterozygotes. The present work represents an attempt to interpret the data from ring/rod heterozygotes using the rules derived from inversion heterozygotes by the above workers, with emphasis on a discrepancy between the observed and expected frequencies of that class of gamete with no X chromosome, the nullo-X class. It will be shown that this discrepancy, a deficiency of the nullo-X class, occurs also in experiments involving certain types of X inversion heterozygotes, and the bearing of the phenomenon on the nature of chromatid separation will be discussed.

Localization of the Genetic Factors Responsible for the Kinetic Activity of X Chromosomes of Drosophila Melanogaster.

HE genetic analysis of kinetic activity in Drosophila melanogaster based T on the fate of first anaphase bridges derived from double crossing over within heterozygous inversions made it possible for centromeres to be characterized as weak or strong. The experimental basis for the distinction between these two types was described earlier (NOVITSKI 1952) and a more detailed description of the gen...

The Behavior of a S Unstable Ring Chroaiosome of Drosophila R.ielanogaster'3

ING-SHAPED chromosomes provide an opportune situation for the analysis R of some aspects of chromosome mechanics. In particular, sister-strand crossing over eludes detection in rod chromosomes but its consequences in ring chromosomes are manifested by the formation of anaphase bridges. Thus RICCLIKTOCK (1938) and SCHWARTZ (1953) have presented cytological evidence for the occurrence of exchange...

Cytogenetic study of two Alhagi species

Background & Aim: Alhagi genus has two important  medicinal plant species in Iran, including Alhagi pseudoalhagi, and A. graecorum (known “Kharshotor” in Persian). These plants are distributed in Iran like weeds. Generally, Alhagi is used as an anti-hemorrhoid, laxative and diuretic. Manna in both species produced by activity of a kind of insect on <...

A Cytological Study of W Chromosome Instability in Cleavage Mitoses of Drosophila Melanogaster.

NSTABILITY of the wVe ring-X chromosome of Drosophila melanogaster is I attributable to anaphase bridge formation during the cleavage mitoses where loss of the bridge from w""/+ embryos results in gynandromorphs or XO males and breakage of the bridge results in lethality (HINTON 1955). Rod-w"" chromosomes derived from unstable wuc ring chromosomes also cause lethality, but are not lost during c...
